Multi-Chain Wallets vs Single-Chain
One wallet for everything, or a specialist for each. The trade-offs are about attack surface rather than convenience.
Most wallets now support many networks. Some specialise in one. The choice matters less for convenience than for what a single compromise reaches.

One recovery phrase for everything. A single backup covers all networks, which is genuinely simpler and reduces the number of things that can be lost.

One compromise reaches everything. If the wallet is compromised, or you sign something malicious, the exposure is every network it holds.
Broader attack surface. More networks means more code, more integrations, more dependencies.
Token display confusion. The same asset on several networks, sometimes shown identically, which causes errors at the worst moments.
The single-chain case
Narrower exposure. A compromise of one wallet reaches one network.
Frequently better support for that chain’s specific features, particularly on networks that are not EVM-compatible.
Simpler mental model. No network selector to get wrong.
The arrangement we actually use
Not either, exactly. Separation by purpose rather than by chain.
A connecting wallet, multi-chain, holding a small balance, used for interacting with applications on whichever network.
A holding wallet, on a hardware device, which has never connected to a website and holds the long-term portion.
A working balance at a venue for buying and rebalancing.
Under that arrangement, multi-chain support in the connecting wallet is convenient and the exposure is bounded by its small balance. The holding wallet’s chain support matters only for the assets you actually hold long term.
What to check either way
Standard recovery, so the wallet can be replaced by other software.
Whether the network is prominent on the send screen.
Whether the same asset on two networks is clearly distinguished.
Transaction simulation, which matters most on the connecting wallet.
The conclusion
The multi-chain versus single-chain question is less important than the separation question.
A multi-chain wallet holding a small balance is safer than a single-chain wallet holding everything, and the arrangement rather than the software is what determines that. For the portion held at the exchange used for the withdrawal test, the question does not arise at all, which is why the working balance stays there rather than in any wallet.
