We Timed Crypto to Bank Settlement at Four Providers

From sale to money in the account, measured. Where the time went and which step caused the variance.

We sold the same amount at four providers and timed how long until the money was spendable in a bank account.

The results

Measured against a regulated crypto to fiat gateway, the differences below are straightforward to reproduce.

Fastest: eleven minutes, using instant euro settlement, on a Sunday evening.

Second: four hours, standard transfer submitted before cut-off on a weekday.

Third: next business day, submitted after cut-off.

Fourth: three business days, because the sale settled in euros and our account was in another currency, which introduced a conversion and an international rail.

Where the time actually went

Not the sale. Every sale executed in under a second.

Not the deposit confirmation, which was under a minute on the network we used.

The fiat transfer, in every case. That is the only step with meaningful duration.

The instant scheme result

The provider connected to instant euro payments settled on a Sunday evening in eleven minutes.

This genuinely changes treasury practice. If settlement is minutes regardless of the day, there is no reason to hold a fiat balance with a provider, which removes a credit exposure people carry without thinking about it. The institutional version we tested through a platform set up for client account handling, with its additional reporting.

Not every provider is connected. Ask specifically, and ask whether it reaches an external bank or only their internal balance.

The currency mismatch cost

The three business day case also cost the most. The conversion margin was 1.1 percent, against a withdrawal fee of two euros on the euro-to-euro route.

On the amount we moved, the currency mismatch cost roughly fifty times the transfer fee.

Matching the settlement currency to the account currency is the single highest value change available, and it costs one afternoon opening an account.

The first withdrawal

All four applied additional checks to the first withdrawal to a new bank account. One to three days.

Do this early with a small amount. It is a one-time cost that people pay at the worst possible moment.

What we would tell a business

Convert on receipt, hold fiat with the provider, sweep on a schedule. That decouples the sale decision from the settlement clock.

Or, if the provider settles instantly to your bank, do not hold a balance at all.

A crypto to fiat provider with published settlement times that states cut-offs and expected arrival per currency is what makes either pattern plannable.
