Fee Display: Which Venues Are Honest
Whether a platform shows you what you are paying before you commit. We rank on disclosure rather than on price, and the two correlate.
We assess venues on whether their costs can be determined before you commit anything. In practice, transparency and price correlate.
The checklist
Is the full fee schedule visible without an account? A platform requiring registration before showing fees has decided what it wants you to be able to compare.
Are maker and taker rates stated with the volume tiers?
Are withdrawal fees listed per asset and per network? The per-network part matters, because the same asset can differ by a large multiple across networks.
Is the network fee separated from the platform’s own charge? A combined figure conceals the margin.
Are deposit fees stated by method?
Is an order book available alongside any simplified buy interface? The spread on a quoted price is not disclosed anywhere. Offering an order book makes it measurable, which is the next best thing.
Are withdrawal minimums published?
Is the schedule dated?
What we found
Venues meeting all eight exist, including venues supporting external addresses. Venues meeting fewer than half also exist and are frequently the ones advertising low fees.
The separation of network fee from platform charge was the strongest single indicator. It is the field that reveals the most, because the network cost is independently verifiable on an explorer and the difference is the margin.
Why disclosure predicts price
Not because transparent venues are altruistic.
Concealment is only worth the effort when there is something to conceal. A venue with competitive fees has no reason to hide them; a venue with a wide spread on its simplified interface has a strong reason not to display an order book alongside it.
The measurement anyone can run
Open the simplified buy interface and note the quoted price for your amount. Open the order book at the same moment and note the mid price.
The difference is what the convenience costs. Thirty seconds, and it is the most informative comparison available between platforms.
The recommendation
Price your own pattern on two or three venues: deposit method, purchase size, execution method, withdrawal frequency and network.
The answer is frequently several times different between platforms advertising similar headline rates, and it does not change often enough to need rechecking more than annually.
